Lures
Lures founders Jason Slatton and Russ Hallauer starting writing and recording together as late in 1995 with a revolving roster of musicians. It wasn't until 1997 -- with the addition of bassist Larry Tenner and the permanent drafting of drummer Clay Leverett -- that the Athens, GA group truly came together as a unit.
The members of the band came from varied musical backgrounds. Slatton performed and recorded with New West Records recording artist Randall Bramblett. Hallauer spent the first half of the 1990s doing the indie-pop-punk thing with Grass Records recording artists Sunbrain and laying the foundation for Ghostmeat. Tenner had been in several prominent Athens hard rock combos including Waylaid, Magneto and The Germans. Leverett, who spent time as drummer for the Athens rock trio Drip, currently fronts two of his own bands Lona and The Chasers, drums for Saddle Creek Records recording artists Now It's Overhead.
In 1998, the band went into the studio with acclaimed recording engineer Andy LeMaster (Drip, Now It's Overhead, Bright Eyes) at Athens' Chase Park Transduction studios. When I Was Broken, was released in 1999 on New York's Ten 23 Records. The album peaked at #90 on the CMJ charts and tracks from ...Broken appeared on compilations alongside artists such as Superdrag, Elf Power, Superchunk, Alex Chilton, Meat Puppets, Vic Chesnutt, Japancakes, Jucifer and more.
In 2000, the band completed work on their second album titled Dolores. Again they went to Chase Park Transduction, but this time with ex-Sugar bassist David Barbe (Son Volt, Five Eight) producing. The album was released on Ghostmeat in January 2001. The Lures disbanded later that year. Check out some Lures press.

Lures
"Not Coming Down" b/w "Dashlight"
Released in 1997
This record features two songs from the Athens, GA quartet. The recordings were done by Andy LeMaster (Drip, Now It's Overhead). The songs are pop-rock heavy on melody, harmony and guitars. "Not Coming Down" demonstrates a love for pure, Beatles-esque hooks while the B-side, "Dashlight," is slower, darker and more obtuse. Both songs were included on the band's debut album When I Was Broken released in 1999 on New York's Ten 23 Records.
